The role of Adjunct Faculty is to effectively communicate with students and help them achieve their educational goals. The instructor maximizes retention of students for the completion of their programs and provides for students by fostering a proper educational environment so that students may derive the maximum benefits from the program in which they are enrolled.

Teach all assigned classes and hours as determined utilizing various class assignments.


Plan for instructional activities to include, but not limited to, lecture, class discussion, demonstration labs, and projects. Course outlines and syllabi should be provided for students at the beginning of each course setting objectives, determining multiple teaching strategies, student activities and evaluation of student learning. 


Organize concepts to be taught in a logical and understandable sequence covering all objectives as outlined in the course syllabus and lesson guides.


Handle classroom routines which include but are not limited to the following:

 Start and end class on time

 Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning

 Administer rules consistently and fairly

 Establish and maintain classroom control

 Return tests, labs and homework in a timely manner


Use appropriate assessment tools to include but are not limited to the following:

Select, develop and use informal and formal techniques or instruments to measure student learning,  

Modify teaching strategies as needed.

Submit and maintain accurate records of attendance, grades and other administrative reports.

Submit all paperwork in a timely manner.

Identify and assess students who need additional instruction to successfully complete the course objectives and provide additional instruction to those students outside of class hours, as needed.

Attend all meetings, ceremonies and official functions as specified by the program




Performs other related duties as required.



Supervise independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work, or other training.

Conduct training sessions to teach and demonstrate principles, techniques, procedures, or methods of designated subjects.


Relevant equipment used in the law enforcement and correction professions including but not limited to computers, personal protection devices, chemicals and devices used for criminal and forensic investigations.



Non-public personnel records and issues; student and other information covered by FERPA guidelines and agreed to in the College’s FERPA Confidentiality Agreement.


May be exposed to firearms, explosives, chemical agents, lead contamination, odors and loud noises. May require work outside normal business hours and travel.



The following physical demands are typically needed to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. May require long periods of standing and working outdoors requiring exposure to immoderate weather conditions.  




Knowledge of: principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects; relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

Ability to: give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. The ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems; communicate information and ideas verbally so others will understand; speak clearly so that others can understand you; listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences; read and understand information and ideas presented in writing; communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand; apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense; combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events); arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules; come up with unusual or cleaver ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem.


Skill in: Teaching others how to do something; talking  others to convey information effectively; selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things; giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times; using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.



Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice preferred or related field and five-years of full-time experience in law enforcement, corrections, or asset protection / loss prevention management.  

Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.  

Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
