Leading in Appalachia cohort series

Have you been told you would be a good leader?
Do you want to learn more about the skills that make leaders effective?
If your answer is yes, this is the program for you.

This six-workshop program is designed for individuals who want to build their skills to become the Appalachian leaders of tomorrow.

At each workshop, an instructor will provide information about a key leadership topic. Participants will engage with the instructor and each other to incorporate the topic into their leadership journey.


LEADERSHIP FUNDAMENTALS
Wednesday, April 12, 9 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Stuart’s Opera House, Nelsonville
This workshop will help you understand leadership styles and define the leader you want to be.

BEYOND STEREOTYPES: DEVELOPING CULTURAL CONTEXT, COMPETENCE AND HUMILITY
Wednesday, May 10, 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Zoom
The Appalachian region is often misunderstood. In this workshop, you’ll learn about the cultural traits of the region and understand the importance of context.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
Wednesday, June 14, 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Zoom
In this workshop, you’ll learn the tools to communicate more clearly to accomplish tasks and build relationships.

ADDRESSING COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS
Wednesday, July 12, 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Zoom
This workshop continues the conversation we began in June and addresses communication problems in the workplace.

IT’S A GREAT IDEA; HOW DO WE PAY FOR IT?
Wednesday, August 9, 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Zoom
This workshop will show you how to identify available resources and funding opportunities. Plus, you’ll learn the basics of applying for grants.

CAPSTONE
Wednesday, September 6, 9 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Southeast Ohio History Center, Athens
The final workshop provides an opportunity to reflect on the program and build your leadership development plan.

PLUS:
Each participant will be invited to explore their Strengths and participate in coaching to develop those strengths

Participants are expected to commit to all six sections.
