About Us
The John P. Parker Historical Society, Inc. operates the John P. Parker House Museum, Phoenix Foundry Display Center and Parker Memorial Park to recognize, commemorate, and preserve the extraordinary legacy of African-American, John P. Parker, who bought his own freedom, became an active Underground Railroad Conductor, and was an Entrepreneur who owned & operated Phoenix Foundry and held 3 patents before 1900. Parker was, also, a recruiter of African-Americans for the Civil War.
The Parker House holds professionally designed exhibits that depict Parker's life story and his important role in our Nation's History. The site is a National Historic Landmark as well as a National Network to Freedom Site.
Tours are available and encouraged. The site is handicap accessible.
